Spoon a Day Challenge, 365 Clay Spoons in 2015: Day 43, Small and Puffy Spoon

Small, hollow spoon. Created from two flat slabs of clay and gently made to be rounded. Then joined together to form the spoon. I know, I know…I should have taken pictures of the process…my explanation is definitely lacking.

Spoon a Day Challenge, 365 Clay Spoons in 2015: Day 42

Simple textured smallish clay spoon, with stamped sprigs applied at neck. My family wanted me to make today’s spoon a tribute to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but I haven’t read it and I didn’t have any idea where to start with that…so I’ll just say that today is day number 42, the answer to life, the universe and everything. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 41, Lines and Vintage Graffiti

I love the background for these shots. It is an old school desk from Grainger County, TN, where my mom went to school as a girl. The boys used to bring pocket knives to school and whittle away at the desk when they were bored. The spoon is formed from one piece of clay and is solid. I hope that it doesn’t explode as thick clay is wont to do. I love the simplicity of this one.

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 39, Sgraffito Spoon

Spoon formed in two parts. Bowl part is a pinch pot and the handle is a long rectangular slab rolled up into a tube. (That reminds me, I need to poke a tiny hole in it so that it doesn’t explode in the kiln!) It was then painted with black underglaze (3 coats) and the designs were then carved into the leather hard clay. Reminds me of zentangles!

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 38, Double-Sided Spoon/Scoop

This is a double-sided spoon/scoop formed by hand from one chunk of clay whilst watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. On Instagram (sonyajpenn), I posted a short video of it being turned over so that you can see both sides well.

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 37, Simple Swirl

I started to make a cat spoon tonight, but I felt silly posting it. So I went for the safe thing and made a very simple spoon with a cinnamon roll swirl on the handle. I am also including some up close shots of some of the spoons that came out of the kiln yesterday. I am really happy with how the firing went.

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 36, Small Scoop and Kiln Opening

I am so pleased with today’s kiln opening! Everything came out well; no problems in the firing. That. Never. Happens. So needless to say….SUPER HAPPY!!

Today’s spoon, #36, is a small scoop. Handbuilt from a small slab. The scoop part is all one piece with two cuts and folded in on itself. Then a flat strip for the handle. I tried to get Harry to pose with the scoop, but he was convinced that I was up to no good!

Lots of pictures today, spoon first and then all the kiln opening pics.

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 35

Looks like a spoon and bowl for guacamole or salsa! I didn’t plan it that way, but that is what I’m thinking it is. 🙂 The spoon has a hollow handle made from two pinch pots put together and then a spoon bowl attached. The bowl is a pinch pot with scrolled feet attached. The dot pattern is created by a small slender shell.
