365 Spoons in 2015: Day 21; Larry, is that you?!

I must have put four different handles on today’s spoon before settling on this one that looks decidedly like a cucumber. It is a puffy, hollow handle with bumps. (A texture gotten by rolling the clay on a pegboard.) I’m thinking that this guy is going to need to be chartreuse and purple. Nothing else will suit him!

And for those who are wondering…the “Larry” in the title of the post is in reference to a certain cartoon veggie that goes by that name. 🙂

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 14

So here we are so far. 14 days in. With a thing a day project, you face many idiosyncrasies of human nature. There is always overcoming the desire to give yourself a pass for the day, even on those late nights when you just want to go to bed. But there is also the facing of your inner fears that you just aren’t good enough to pull off a successful project that is the magnitude of making a thing a day for an entire year; through exhaustion, sickness, and vacation! What makes the project a success? I think that will be something that I will know further along in the process. I already know that having the accountability of making a daily post is creating discipline in my daily routine. What I am learning is, that in doing a daily creative exercise, I am forcing myself to explore the subject and attempt to overcome my self-doubt. Too heavy? Probably. I’ll most likely have a sunnier outlook after dinner. 🙂

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 11

Large Soup Ladle

On a cold winter’s day, imagine enjoing soul warming soup with this handmade ceramic soup ladle. This one took a bit longer to make, on account of it being larger and the handle being so long. Of course, who knows when it will be finished…it has to dry and go through two kiln firings before it will be table ready. But be patient! Soon enough, my friends, you will see some actual glazed COMPLETED SPOONS!! Can’t wait!

365 Spoons in 2015: Day 10

According to some, it takes 66 days to create a habit. I wonder how naturally this will come to me by the time I get to March 7th? I am enjoying this little project so far, I just have to make sure I don’t forget on these weekends when we get out of the weekday routine. Summertime may be more of a challenge with sun and fun out there!

This little spoon has a large bowl and a short textured handle. I forgot to stamp my initials in it before it got too dry. Oh well! Hope this chilly winter day finds you all warm and cozy!
