This is day 5 of the 6 day mini-challenge that is part of the larger challenge of making 365 spoons in 2015. This mini-challenge has a chess theme. I have completed the pawn, rook, knight, bishop and queen. Up next is the king.
This mini-challenge has proven very, um…, challenging! These chess themed spoons have taken about 3 to 4 times longer to make than the ones I had been making. After this mini-challenge, and the last fish Friday of lent, I think I will chill for a bit and go back to the more simple spoons while I come up with the next mini-challenge.
Dedicated to the memory of “Mr. Kentucky Chess”, S.D. We were lucky to have known him.
Today is Fish Friday and also the 65th day of the year. 300 days to go for this project. I have been pondering about if I will do another 365 days project next year and what would it be. I think maybe cups? Bowls? Any suggestions?
This is dotted with colorful underglaze. After it is bisque fired, I will apply a clear glaze and everywhere that looks like “background” (just the plain clay) will be bright white. The underglaze will brighten up considerably too.
