Small Scoop, that is all.
The Hubster returned today from Costa Rica. (Yes, he left us all here in the cold; revenge to be had at a later time.) We all were there together a couple of years ago, and one of my favorite memories of going is that we got to see, hold, and feed a Toucan. They are so magnificent! That beak is almost as big as their entire body. To celebrate the Hubby’s return to the land of the ice and snow, I wanted to do today’s spoon with Costa Rica in mind. Let’s just hope that the Hubster brought some of that nice weather back with him!
So here we are so far. 14 days in. With a thing a day project, you face many idiosyncrasies of human nature. There is always overcoming the desire to give yourself a pass for the day, even on those late nights when you just want to go to bed. But there is also the facing of your inner fears that you just aren’t good enough to pull off a successful project that is the magnitude of making a thing a day for an entire year; through exhaustion, sickness, and vacation! What makes the project a success? I think that will be something that I will know further along in the process. I already know that having the accountability of making a daily post is creating discipline in my daily routine. What I am learning is, that in doing a daily creative exercise, I am forcing myself to explore the subject and attempt to overcome my self-doubt. Too heavy? Probably. I’ll most likely have a sunnier outlook after dinner. 🙂
Large Soup Ladle
On a cold winter’s day, imagine enjoing soul warming soup with this handmade ceramic soup ladle. This one took a bit longer to make, on account of it being larger and the handle being so long. Of course, who knows when it will be finished…it has to dry and go through two kiln firings before it will be table ready. But be patient! Soon enough, my friends, you will see some actual glazed COMPLETED SPOONS!! Can’t wait!
According to some, it takes 66 days to create a habit. I wonder how naturally this will come to me by the time I get to March 7th? I am enjoying this little project so far, I just have to make sure I don’t forget on these weekends when we get out of the weekday routine. Summertime may be more of a challenge with sun and fun out there!
This little spoon has a large bowl and a short textured handle. I forgot to stamp my initials in it before it got too dry. Oh well! Hope this chilly winter day finds you all warm and cozy!
